Many components in various industries are subjected to vibration loadings.  Some common examples are transportation vehicles and industrial equipment such as pumps and valves.  The vibration loadings produce fluctuating stresses that cause fatigue damage.  Understanding the extent of the induced fatigue damage is critical.  Fatigue induced failures have been estimated to cost more than 20 billion dollars per year in the US alone. In addition, physical fatigue testing is difficult, time consuming, and expensive.  Thus, accurately assessing fatigue damage caused by vibratory loading using CAE is critical in developing efficient, safe, successful designs.  

Ansys nCode DesignLife can be used to virtually assess fatigue damage using finite element stress/strain results.  DesignLife can be used with many finite element codes, but Ansys nCode DesignLife is integrated with Ansys Mechanical to simplify the analysis process.  The integration of Ansys nCode DesignLife with Ansys Mechanical using the Workbench platform will be a focus of the course.
